Vancouver Voice
This is a cover illustration that I did for the Vancouver Voice. It's a local paper with a good design and solid writing.
The sketch that they liked was pretty close to this finished version. I lightbox/inked it with microns and tightened it up a bit in the process, not too much though. Color was done in Photoshop CS3.
You can read the cover story on their website here.
EDIT:
Here is the image as I sent it to them:

KA-BLAM-O
Here is a cover proposal for KA-BLAM-O. This is a comic/art project organized by Edowyn Vazkez (see link in sidebar). It should be great, I've seen some of the work going into it and I'm excited. I still have my 2 page comic to complete for it...
It was a pretty good day today. I got some work lined up, so I shouldn't be so stressed about student loan payments anymore. I also saw that my website went back up, which is always a plus (thanks, Jorge!). So yeah, I'm feeling good. Maybe I'll go watch a movie and relax.

The internets sucked away my soul
I've been sending out over thirteen trillion resumes every day for the past 84 years and this is the result. I was lucky enough to capture the image of my soul disappearing with the last ounce of creative juice I had left. Maybe one day I will rediscover my soul in the 'for sale' section of Craigslist - but for now - it's GONE...

Robot Nurse
I've noticed that I'm posting a lot more on here than I ever did on my own website - which is good! It's a lot easier to do a quick post on here when I'm done with something.
Sooo, here ya go! It's some kind of robot nurse. Steam powered? ...maybe... lots of exhaust or whatever it is.. Probably works in a dirty post-apocalyptic mutant hospital... or something like that.
Also, Im considering restarting Evil Bird. Same story, just a different approach.. Maybe I'll just do page 3 with the different approach, then go back to 'fix' pages 1 and 2.

Evil Bird, page 1
So I have a degree in comics, right? So I should probably put it to some use. I've been putting off comics for a while, working on graphic design and illustration stuff. But comics are awesome! So I gotta do more.
Here is page 1 of a book that I've wanted to do for a few years. I've made a lot of notes and written pages for it, but I think the best approach is to take the basic outline and just run with it. So I'm not doing thumbnails or loose pages, I'm just jumping write into the finished page. We'll see what happens, but I like page 1 for a start.
Comics are fun! And I'm trying to focus on the parts that I have the most fun with while creating this comic.
The plan is to do at least one page a week and post them over the weekend. I'm super busy with job hunting right now - but if I don't work on projects like this, then I'll never finish them.
Not much going on in page 1 - but I hope you enjoy it!

New Blog
I started this blog to keep my website portfolio and my random projects and experiments separate. This will let me post works in progress and various unrelated things more easily, then if they make the cut, they'll make their way into my website portfolio: http://www.jonsperry.com .
