Ominous Cat Logo

By the way, my freelance art and design business name is OMINOUS CAT. I had a few names mulling over in my head on the way to the courthouse the first time I signed up for a business license.. That is what popped out when it came down to it. Other runner up names were: LEVEL UP and... maybe some variation of my name... SPERRYART... kinda lame. I guess i don't remember all the runner ups, it was a while ago. Anyway, I've embraced the name since that confusing day at the downtown Manhattan courthouse.

I decided to update my logo a bit. The older logo is just on my business cards and invoices, so chances are you haven't seen it. It was the same basic structure, just less ominous.

Bunnies!

Here is a bit of a 'spec' illustration for something I'm working on. I think the client wants to go in a slightly different direction with the project, but I like the way this piece came out.

An Effing Foodie

Here is a web banner that I am working up for An Effing Foodie, a wonderful food and review blog. It's not quite working for me in this direction so I think I need to take a few steps back on the project and rethink it a bit... it may just be a matter of recoloring and rearranging some of the elements... we'll see. I figured I'd share where it's at anyway. And check out Effing Foodie. Especially you New York Foodies!

TRICKSTER

I've been working on this story by Joseph Stands with Many for the TRICKSTER anthology. These are some character designs and color experiments.

Portland Mercury Cover Art

So this was an awesome deal. I wrote to the art director at the Portland Mercury, he looked over my site and saw an illustration that matched up perfectly with a cover story he was putting together. Just lucky timing I guess. Hopefully I'll get more work with them.

Here's a screenshot from the site:

THEY LIVE!

Another John Carpenter related post. This is a poster I've been building up for an open submission project SUPERTRASH . This evolved quite a long way from the original concept, but I like this much better. Originally, I was just going to do a big 'alien' face, with THEY at the top and LIVE at the bottom. But I think that may have been too simple. This has a little more content to it.

I'm not positive yet if this is the final FINAL version. I'm going to let it seep for a day or two and take another look at it to make sure it's 'done'. It's kinda like baking for me, even if the oven buzzer goes off, you still have to check it and maybe add a few minutes.

The Thing

So I watched 'The Thing' on HD DVD last night and did a little sketch. The Norwegians at the beginning have these cool snow goggles on. This doesn't look like anyone in particular from the movie I think... but y'know, he'd fit in fine.

p.s. - 'The Thing' is my favorite movie ever.

Cowboys

An illustration I put together as part of a larger project. Just figured I'd share :)

Grunge poster design

I did this poster design at work. I was given two (very) lo res images, so I figured a grunge look would be the best way to go about the design. They haven't picked up the print yet (finished print 24x36"), but I think they'll be pleasantly surprised.
